Dry skin causes a lot of trouble: washing the face causes a feeling of tightness, makeup does not go on smoothly, after tanning the slightest wrinkles become visible, and in cold weather the face peels and shows signs of irritation. To get rid of the “vagaries” of dry skin once and for all.

How do I recognize dry skin?

Do a simple test at home: two to three hours after washing, place paper tissues on the face – one on the forehead, nose and chin, two more on the cheeks and cheekbones. The tissues should be pressed to the face for a few seconds and checked for transparency. If they do not leave a trace – most likely you have dry skin that does not produce enough sebum.

The main signs that you have a dry skin type:

  • The skin is delicate and thin;
  • Pores are small and almost invisible;
  • The skin is low in grease and perspiration (it is not shiny and has a matte shade);
  • There is often a feeling of dryness and tightness;
  • Occasional flaking of the skin.

Why it’s important to take good care of dry skin

Before the age of 30, those who have dry skin rarely experience such problems as oily shine, acne, enlarged pores and black spots. As we age, however, the lack of proper care can cause our skin’s appearance to deteriorate. A large number of fine lines appear, unwanted pigmentation intensifies, tone deteriorates and the natural glow is lost.

That’s why dry skin needs daily care aimed at deep moisturizing.

How to care for dry skin

CLEANSING

Cleansing is an essential and very important part of skin care. However, the classic twice-a-day cleansing routine is not always suitable for those with very dry skin, so a single wash in the evening and a waterless morning cleanse may be sufficient.

It is important to use only delicate products with a gentle consistency: foam, mousse or milk. Pay attention to the composition of the product: it should contain moisturizing and nourishing ingredients (e.g., hyaluronic acid, snail mucin, oils).

Apply the product with gentle massage movements and rinse off with lukewarm water. Be sure to watch the temperature: hot water can aggravate dryness, especially in winter.

TONISHING

Toning is necessary to restore the pH-balance of the skin, prepare it for hydration and a more intensive effect of the active ingredients of the cream. If you have dry skin, toners and lotions containing alcohol and drying components should never be used.

MOISTURIZATION

For daily moisturizing of the skin it is desirable to use a tandem of serum + cream.

The fact is that the serum contains a high concentration of active ingredients. It penetrates deep into the epidermis layers and enhances the effectiveness of basic care. The cream strengthens the skin’s hydrolipidic mantle and provides protection against aggressive environmental factors. The serum and cream reinforce and complement each other’s action.

It is very important to use moisturizing means correctly. After cleansing and toning apply a few drops of the serum on clean palms and gently rub the product. Then spread the serum over your face with gentle pressing motions and gently pat the serum into your face, neck and décolleté area. Wait until the serum is completely absorbed before applying your moisturizer.

Remember to apply moisturizers at least one hour before going outdoors.

EXTRA CARE

Exfoliation is an important part of any skin care regimen. As dead skin cells accumulate, they cause dry patches, uneven color, dullness, blackheads, and inflammation. A thick layer of dead cells prevents the skin from getting the most out of skin care products, so without proper cleansing no cream will work to its full potential.

It’s important to understand, however, that dry skin requires gentle exfoliation. Scrubs with abrasive particles and aggressive peels can traumatize the epidermis and disrupt the already thin lipid mantle. Therefore, it is important to choose a mild gommage or enzyme pair for exfoliation. It is recommended to perform the exfoliation procedure once every 7-15 days.

Another important element of additional care – masks. They enhance the effectiveness of daily care. For dry skin, it is recommended to apply masks one to three times a week.
